India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randeep Joyeswal, has alleged that communal attacks in Bangladesh are being portrayed as incidents stemming from personal disputes, vendettas, political differences, or other unrelated reasons. He warned that such framing only serves to embolden those responsible for the attacks.
Joyeswal made these remarks on Friday during the ministry’s weekly press briefing in New Delhi, responding to a journalist’s question.
He noted, “We are witnessing repeated assaults on minorities in Bangladesh. Extremists are targeting their homes and businesses.”
Highlighting the need for a swift and firm response, the spokesperson said, “These incidents are being mischaracterized as personal enmity, individual grudges, political disagreements, or other irrelevant causes. This not only encourages extremists and those responsible for the crimes but also heightens fear and uncertainty among minority communities.”
On a separate matter regarding Bangladesh’s discussions with Pakistan to acquire JF-17 Thunder fighter jets, Joyeswal stated, “We are closely monitoring all issues that concern our security interests.”
Recently, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmud Khan, Chief of the Bangladesh Air Force, met with Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, Chief of the Pakistan Air Force, in Islamabad. According to Pakistan’s military, the talks included discussions on the potential purchase of JF-17 Thunder jets, along with other matters. Bangladesh’s ISPR has clarified that the proposal is still under review.
