CID Ordered to Conduct Further Investigation in Osman Hadi Murder Case Following Complainant’s Objection

Court Orders CID to Submit Further Investigation Report in Osman Hadi Murder Case by January 20

The court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct further investigations and submit a report by January 20 in connection with the murder of Shahid Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, convener of the Inquilab Platform.

The order was issued Thursday afternoon by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam in Dhaka. Deputy Commissioner of the DMP Prosecution Division, Mia Mohammad Ashis bin Hassan, confirmed the development.

Previously, on January 6, the case investigation officer, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the DB Police, submitted a charge sheet against 17 individuals. On January 12, the complainant, Abdullah Al Jaber, member-secretary of Inquilab Platform, appeared in court to review the police charge sheet and requested time until Thursday. Today, the complainant formally expressed dissatisfaction with the submitted charge sheet.

According to the DB’s charge sheet, the main accused Faisal Karim Masud alias Daud, his associate Alamgir Hossain, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jubo League’s organizational secretary and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, Philip Snall Philips, Mukti Akter, and Faisal’s sister Jasmin Akter are currently fugitives.

The remaining 11 accused are in custody, including Faisal’s father Humayun Kabir, mother Hasi Begum, wife Saheda Parvin Samia, girlfriend Maria Akter Lima, brother-in-law Wahid Ahmed Sipu, car rental businessman Mufti Nuruzzaman Nomani alias Ujjwal, Faisal’s close associate Kabir, Sibyon Dew, Sanjay Chisim, Md Aminul Islam alias Raju, and Md Faisal, who was arrested in Narshingdi with arms.

According to the case, Osman Hadi had served as the spokesperson of the political and cultural platform Inquilab after the mass uprising. On December 12, at around 2:20 pm, assailants on a motorcycle shot him on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station, hitting him in the head and below his right ear. He was treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, and later flown to Singapore via air ambulance for advanced treatment. Osman Hadi succumbed to his injuries on December 18.

In response, Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station on December 14, which was subsequently converted into a murder case.
