The verdict in the crimes against humanity case linked to the July mass uprising in the capital’s Chankharpul area will not be delivered today, Tuesday, as previously scheduled. The International Crimes Tribunal-1 has now set January 26 as the new date for announcing the judgment.

The decision to reschedule was made today by the three-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder. The other members of the bench are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.

During the hearing this morning, Justice Majumder expressed regret over the delay, stating that the ruling was not yet ready and would therefore be pronounced on January 26.

The final arguments in the case concluded on December 24. At that time, the tribunal had indicated that the verdict would be delivered on January 20. However, due to the judgment not being finalized, the announcement has now been postponed to the later date.

Family members of Shahriar Khan Anas, who was killed by gunfire in the Chankharpul area during the unrest, were present at the tribunal earlier today.
