Mother and Two Children Die After Being Struck by Train in Gazipur
In Gazipur, a mother and her two young children were killed after being hit by a train. Police initially suspect that the woman may have taken her own life along with her children. The tragic incident occurred on Monday around 11:30 a.m. at the Pubail railway crossing in Gazipur city.
The mother has been identified as Hafeeza Khatun, 35, from South New Sombazar in Kaliganj Upazila, Gazipur. Her son was approximately seven years old, and her daughter about five.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Hafeeza Khatun had been standing at the railway crossing with her children for some time that morning. Around 11:30 a.m., the Titas Express, traveling from Brahmanbaria toward Dhaka, approached the crossing. Hafeeza was reportedly holding her children’s hands and walking along the tracks when the train struck them.
Gatekeeper Abdul Sattar shouted at the woman to move, but she remained on the tracks holding her children. “The children were trying to pull away, but she held them tightly. I ran to save them, but I couldn’t,” he said.
Police from Pubail Thana recovered the bodies at the scene. Sub-Inspector Syed Al Amin stated, “Preliminary reports suggest that the woman deliberately jumped in front of the train with her children. A detailed investigation will provide further information.
