The re-verification process for the 43rd BCS has resulted in the disqualification of 267 candidates, with 168 eliminated in the latest round. The reason cited for most rejections is negative reports from intelligence agencies, often based on political backgrounds. However, questions arise about the fairness of this process. During the Awami League’s rule, individuals with political backgrounds outside the party found it difficult to secure prestigious government jobs. Now, if similar patterns are observed, what is the difference? Why should a candidate, who has successfully passed the preliminary, written, and viva exams, and has no criminal history, be denied employment due to their family’s political background? The issue becomes even more controversial when intelligence agencies are reportedly consulting local political figures about candidates’ family affiliations. Many candidates who worked hard, including one who was highly qualified with a perfect GPA, were disqualified after re-verification, despite passing earlier stages. This undermines the process, especially when such candidates had already resigned from previous jobs and were relying on this opportunity as a final chance for their career. This situation risks eroding trust in the recruitment system, potentially leading future generations to seek opportunities abroad. Ultimately, employment should be based on merit, not political affiliation, and any attempt to undermine this principle sends a harmful message about fairness and constitutional rights.
