Don’t show too much emotion on the field. It was also seen in the match against Rajasthan Royals in IPL today. There is no other way to show Sunil Narain’s emotions! This all-rounder scored his first century in the 504th match of his T20 career.

Played an innings of 109 runs off 56 balls with 13 fours and 6 sixes against Rajasthan. Narine scored a 29-ball fifty off 49 balls. This Caribbean all-rounder has changed Kolkata’s batting with the bat this season. This time Kolkata’s maximum run of 276 came from this opener. Scored at a strike rate of 187.75.

However, this Narine scored only 92 runs in 20 innings in the last two seasons of IPL! Before this year’s IPL, he could not do well with the bat in the BPL either. The highest innings was 16 runs played in 5 matches for Comilla Victorians.

Narine credited team mentor Gautam Gambhir for scoring the century. He said, ‘After Gautam Gambhir’s return, he gave me confidence, assured me that I would open. My job is to get the team off to a good start, keep batting.’

This is the third century of the Kolkata batsmen in all IPL seasons. New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum scored the first century. He played a historic innings of 158 runs in the first match of IPL on April 18, 2008. Venkatesh Iyer scored the second century for Kolkata. He scored his century last year on this day – 16th April. Narine is now the only cricketer in the IPL, who has 5 wickets and a century.

Narine made his IPL debut against Rajasthan. He batted at number 10 in the debut match in 2012.
