Bangladesh on Alert as Dengue Claims 8 More Lives in a Day

Bangladesh recorded eight more dengue-related deaths and 1,860 new hospital admissions over the past 24 hours, highlighting the continued severity of this year’s outbreak.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the latest fatalities have pushed the national dengue death toll to 289 in 2026.
Among the deaths reported during the last 24 hours, two occurred in Dhaka South City Corporation. Outside city corporation areas, two deaths were recorded in Khulna Division, two in Rajshahi Division, one in Sylhet Division, and one in Barishal Division.
Health officials reported that dengue infections remain widespread across the country. During the same period, 376 patients were admitted to hospitals in Khulna Division, the highest number among all regions. Dhaka Division outside city corporation areas recorded 247 new patients, while Chattogram Division reported 216 cases.
Dhaka North City Corporation registered 212 new admissions, followed by Dhaka South City Corporation with 171. Other divisions also reported significant numbers, including 200 cases in Barishal, 176 in Rajshahi, 110 in Mymensingh, 38 in Rangpur, and 14 in Sylhet.
DGHS data shows that since January 1, a total of 289 people have died from dengue nationwide. Dhaka Division, including the two city corporations, has recorded the highest number of fatalities with 129 deaths.
Outside Dhaka, Khulna Division has reported 57 deaths, followed by Barishal with 25, Chattogram with 25, Mymensingh with 23, Rajshahi with 21, Rangpur with six, and Sylhet with three.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds, seek medical attention early for dengue symptoms, and follow preventive measures as the outbreak remains a major public health concern.
