Eat journalists, eat journalism! Journalists are so eager to print false, baseless, fabricated news against journalists which is unprecedented in any other profession. Basically, as a journalist, there are precedents of publishing most of the news because of revenge, conflict, outrage of another journalist. But I can’t find any criteria to put what happened in Matiranga of Khagrachari.
There, there was a brutal attack on the editor and publisher of Dainik Kaler Pratichchabi newspaper Hasan Al Mamun and his family. The miscreants blocked his car by creating roadblocks and smashed the windows of the car and dragged Hasan Al Mamun, his wife Ratna Hasan and daughter Jannat. They beat everyone with rods, pipes, sticks and tried to kill Hasan Al Mamun. When the police reached the spot after receiving the information, the miscreants fled. The injured were rescued and admitted to Matiranga Upazila Hospital.
A case has been registered in this incident, police are conducting operation after operation to arrest the accused. The correspondents of that upazila have no interest in publishing that news. But their interests lay elsewhere.
Local reporters took direct sides with the heinous attackers of an editor and his family. They showed an alleged press conference of the accused and prepared news in one piece and published it in some newspapers of their specific category. However, none of the first-class newspapers paid attention to the news. A little educated reader like me could not understand what they wanted to convey in the published news. He once wanted to say in the news that the editor was attacked as a result of arresting a warrant accused in the area. Again he said, there were clashes with the people of the area over various issues. According to the hospital report, the injured editor Hasan Al Mamun was bleeding profusely from a wound on his head, one inch deep and two and a half inches long. It is said that this injury is a heavy iron rod. Do you understand the wound in the event of a fight?
Moreover, Hasan Al Mamun as a man, his wife Ratna Hasan as a woman and her four children were in the car. On the other hand, 12/13 attackers were waiting with barricades on the road with indigenous weapons, rods, clubs. 12/13 people fight with one person ever? Or 12/13 people attack one?
If you can’t understand the logic of the press conference, if you can’t question it, where did you get the responsibility to cover the press conference? Press conference and press release are not the same thing. If someone tries to swallow absurd or false information there, the journalist must question it and crosscheck it. He strongly protested the fabricated speech of the injured editor Hasan Al Mamun in the name of crosscheck. He said that there is no question of giving any speech to anyone while he is under treatment in the hospital in the condition of bloody injuries. So what’s up?
You will be objective, truthful, uncompromising – so you will not have any sense of responsibility, compassion towards another brother of your profession? You will publicize the attack on him as a fight, don’t feel the need to stand by a bloody journalist, run the steps to identify an editor as a so-called editor,,, this is the conscience of journalism? Is this objectivity?
Journalists are repeatedly attacked, tortured and harassed due to personal conflicts, outrages, and revenge, and every time the faces of some broker journalists are exposed. You, I should consider whether or not I fall into that category.
