Chennai Super Kings (CSK) could not restrict Lucknow Super Giants to 210 runs. The target given by Chennai was topped by Lucknow with 6 wickets and 3 balls in hand. This is Chennai’s fourth loss this season. And Mustafizur Rahman’s team lost both of the two matches against Lucknow.

After the match, Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad explained the reason for the team’s defeat. In this case, he blamed the excess dew on the field. Gaikwad felt that the spinners did not do well because of the extra dew. That is, Chennai could not use the spinners well.

Two spinners of Chennai, Moeen Ali and Ravindra Jadeja, spent 36 runs after bowling 4 overs in 2 overs yesterday at their home ground MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium. Even though they had the opportunity to bowl the remaining 4 overs, Chennai did not bowl considering the pitch condition. As a result, the pressure is on the pacers.

Gaikwad, who scored an unbeaten 108 runs for Chennai, said, “This loss is difficult to swallow. But it was a good match of cricket. Lucknow played really well towards the end. We were in control till 13-14th over. But then Stoinis took control of the match. He played brilliantly.’

“Dew played a role,” Gaikwad said. I think, there was too much dew and it took our spinners out of the match. Had it not been for the dew we could have controlled the middle of the game and taken the game to a better position. It is part of cricket. You can’t really change something that isn’t controlled. There is still a long way to go in the tournament.

Gaikwad’s unbeaten 108 and Shivam Dube’s 27-ball 66 were enough for Chennai to capitalize on 210 runs, Gaikwad said, ‘We could not have done more by batting first. To be honest, I never thought it was enough.’

The Chennai skipper added, ‘The kind of dew we have seen in the last few practice sessions was the same yesterday. I knew it (match) would go down to the last over but to their credit, they really batted.”
