After almost a month, the freed ship MV Abdullah arrived in the waters of Bangladesh on Monday afternoon. The ship is scheduled to anchor at Kutubdia in the Bay of Bengal this evening. Captain Mohammad Abdur Rashid, master of MV Abdullah ship, told media this information.

Captain Mohammad Abdur Rashid told media in a WhatsApp message from the ship at 3:00 p.m., “We are now crossing the coast of Cox’s Bazar. Hopefully, it can anchor at Qutubdia at seven in the evening.

The reason for anchoring MV Abdullah at Qutubdia is that such a large ship does not have the opportunity to dock at the port jetty. The ship has 56 thousand 391 tons of limestone. This has increased the ship’s draft (the length of the underwater part) to 12.5 meters, which is equal to four stories.

According to KSRM Group, due to the high draft of the vessel, some amount of cargo will be unloaded at Qutubdia first. It will then be brought into port waters in the Bay of Bengal near Patenga. The rest of the products will be redeemed there. In other words, even if the MV Abdullah reaches the waters of Bangladesh, the 23 sailors of the ship will have to wait one more day to return to their relatives.

When asked when the sailors will be able to return, Deputy Managing Director of KSRM Group Shahriar Jahan Rahat told media at 3:00 PM today that 23 sailors will join the ship today. For this a little later the new sailors are leaving for Qutubdia. Seamen freed from hostages will hand over duties after they join the MV Abdullah ship. After completing all the procedures, the sailors of MV Abdullah are expected to reach the KSRM jetty at Sadarghat around noon on Tuesday.

This ship of KSRM Group was hijacked by Somali pirates from the Indian Ocean on March 12. The ship was freed on the night of April 13 after 33 days of ransom. The ship then first arrived at Al-Hamriya port in the emirate. After discharging the goods there, the ship loaded limestone from another port and left for Chittagong. Thus, after 13 days, the ship reached the waters of Bangladesh.
