The heatwave has spread to 58 districts of the country as the heat continues to rise after a break of a few days. The Meteorological Department has issued a 48-hour warning to be careful in such a situation.

 

In Wednesday evening’s bulletin, the Meteorological Department has given information about the heatwave passing over 16 more districts. Earlier in the day, the Meteorological Office reported mild heat wave in 42 districts.

Meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said that the ongoing heat wave is expected to spread further till next Saturday.

Heatwave has started again in the country since last Monday. There were fires in seven districts that day; Which is gradually spreading to new districts.

The Meteorological Office has issued a two-day warning amid moderate to mild heat wave that is sweeping most parts of the country on Wednesday. Earlier, the Meteorological Department had issued several warnings in late April and early May when the mercury continued to rise during the heat wave.

The warning signed by meteorologist Abul Kalam Mallick said that the heatwave over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna and Barisal divisions may continue for the next 48 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday. Uncomfortable conditions may prevail due to excess water vapor, the message said.

Meteorologist Mallick said the temperature may rise further across the country. But it will rise at 40 degrees.

The evening bulletin said moderate heat wave is moving over Pabna, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram and Rangamati districts.

Besides Chittagong, Comilla, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Bandarban districts, a mild heat wave is flowing over Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal and Sylhet divisions. The same situation prevails in the rest of the Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.

On this day, the highest temperature in the country was recorded at 39 degrees Celsius in Dinajpur. The maximum temperature in Dhaka was 36.3 degrees Celsius.

A slight rise in day and night temperatures across the country has also been predicted in the forecast. There was no measurable rainfall anywhere in the country in 24 hours till 6 pm on this day.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours has said that rain with gusty wind or rain with thunder may occur temporarily at a couple of places in Sylhet division.

This season, the heat wave started from March 31, which lasted for 37 consecutive days till May 6. There was a trend of storms last week.

A mild heat wave is considered when the air temperature is below 36 to 38 degrees Celsius. Temperatures below 38 to 40 degrees are called moderate and temperatures below 40 to 42 degrees are called severe heat waves. And when the temperature rises above 42 degrees, it is called extreme heat wave.

The maximum temperature in Jessore rose to 43.8 degrees Celsius on April 30 amid continuous heatwave. In Chuadanga, the thermometer rose to 43.7 degrees Celsius that day. And the temperature in Dhaka rose to 38.6 degrees.

According to the long term forecast for May, one to three mild or moderate heatwaves and one to two severe heatwaves may occur anywhere in the country during this month.

There may be one or two low pressures in the Bay of Bengal, one of which may develop into a depression or cyclone in the second half of the month.

Normal flow may prevail in rivers during this month. However, due to heavy rainfall upstream, water may flow over the boundary at some places in northern and northeastern regions.
