A fire broke out in Bhogra area of Gazipur city on Wednesday night, destroying hundreds of houses, shops and goods of three colonies.

Abdullah Al Arifin, Assistant Deputy Director of Gazipur Fire Service, said that they received a report of the fire from 999 at around 3 pm on Wednesday. Later, the workers of 3 units of Bhogra Modern Fire Station and two units of Konabari Modern Fire Station went to the spot and brought the fire under control around 4 am on Thursday morning.

The fire is initially believed to have started from an electrical short circuit. In the fire, more than half a hundred houses and shops in three colonies were burnt, but no one was injured.

However, Mohammad Jahangir Alam of a colony said that his 31 residences including three shops and various goods including TV fridge were burnt in the fire.

He also said that the fire started from the hotel and tea shop rented by Mohr Ali. Later it quickly got out of control and spread to the surrounding colonies. In addition to trying to put out the fire themselves, the fire was reported to 999. But the fire service people were late to reach the spot.

Senior Station Officer of Bhogra Mordan Fire Station denied going to the scene late. Ruhul Amin said that there was some delay in extinguishing the fire due to water shortage in the area.
