Hasaranga wanted to break his retirement and return to Test cricket against Bangladesh. But that return did not happen. The leg spinner will not play in the Test against Bangladesh after being punished by the ICC. Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been banned again for misconduct.

He received this punishment after making a mockery of the umpiring in the third ODI against Bangladesh. The ICC said Hasaranga breached Article 2.8 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct, which deals with displeasing an umpire’s decision.

Sri Lanka appealed for LBW against Rishad Hossain in the 37th over of Bangladesh’s innings. The umpire’s call shows the ball tracking, Rishad survives. Hasaranga snatched his cap from the umpire after that over. He also criticized the umpiring in the match.

Hasaranga has been fined 50 percent of the match fee in addition to three demerit points. In this regard, he has eight demerit points in the span of 24 months. As per the rules, eight demerit points will convert into four debarment points. As a result, he will be banned for two Tests or four ODIs or four T20Is (whichever version is played first). As Hasaranga has been kept in the Test team, his ban will be effective in this series.

Earlier, Hasaranga was banned from the first two matches of the T20 series against Bangladesh for criticizing the umpiring in the series against Afghanistan.

In the same match, Mendis was also punished for misbehaving with the umpire. The Sri Lanka captain insulted the umpires while shaking hands after the match. In this case, Mendis received three demerit points in addition to 50 percent of the match fee for breaking Section 2.13 of the Code of Conduct. However, this is his first offense in two years.
