Fire in Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia

In Cox’s Bazar, Tanjimarkhola-13 Rohingya shelter camp in Ukhia, more than half a hundred houses were burnt down. Today Friday at 11:30 am, the fire started from the warehouse of Caritas in Tanjimarkhola B Block No. 13 of Palongkhali Union of Ukhia Upazila.

Camp-13 Camp-in-Charge Al Imran of the Office of the Commissioner for Refugees Relief and Repatriation (Senior Assistant Secretary), said that the fire was initially reported to have started from the warehouse of Caritas in Block B of Tanzimarkhola Rohingya Refugee Camp No. 13. Kanthaltali market and more than half a hundred residential houses of B block have been burnt. A number of shops and houses were demolished to bring the fire under control.

Refugee Relief and Repatriation Additional Commissioner Mohammad Samchu-Douza said that around 11:30 a.m., a sudden fire broke out in the Kanthaltali market area of the Rohingya refugee camp. Instantly the fire spread around. On receiving information, 2 units of Ukhia Fire Service Station reached the spot. Later some other units joined from Cox’s Bazar. Teknaf Fire Service Station is also working to bring the fire under control.
