Cyclone Remal has so far hit the coast of Patuakhali with a maximum speed of 102 kmph, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said. According to the agency, it is a strong cyclone and its speed can reach 90 to 118 km. Monday (May 27) at 2 o’clock in the last briefing of the Department of Meteorology, meteorologist Dr. Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik said this.

He said, it is expected that Remal will have a maximum speed of 102 km. Cyclone Remal is crossing the coast with great strength. The wind speed is gradually increasing in the center of the cyclone. The Remal center started crossing the coast at 9 pm. Mongla of Bagerhat and Khepupra of Patuakhali and West Bengal are moving at a speed of 15 to 18 km per hour.

Meanwhile, on Monday (May 27) night special weather bulletin No. 16 said that the maximum sustained wind speed is 90 km/h within 64 km of the center of the strong cyclone, which increases up to 120 km/h in the form of gusts or gales.

Payra and Mongla seaports have been asked to display distress signal number 10. Coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and their nearby islands and chars will be under the 10th distress signal.

Cox’s Bazar and Chittagong seaports have been asked to display distress signal number 9. The coastal districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur and their outlying islands and chars will be covered under the 9th distress signal.

The river ports of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar districts have been asked to show maritime distress signal number 4.

Due to the influence of the leading edge of the strong cyclone and the excess of air pressure difference, the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Feni, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Chandpur, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and their nearby islands and chars are lower than normal tides. 8-12 feet more can be inundated by wind driven tides.

Under the influence of severe cyclone, heavy (44-68 mm/24 hours) to very heavy (189 mm/24 hours) rainfall with gusty winds may occur in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions. Landslides may occur in hilly areas of Cox’s Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati, Khagrachari and Chittagong due to heavy rainfall.

Fishing boats and trawlers operating in North Bay of Bengal and deep sea have been asked to remain in safe harbor until further notice.
