Dhaka’s air ‘acceptable quality’ on Tuesday morning after heavy rains

Due to the impact of Cyclone Rimal, it started raining in the capital Dhaka at midnight last Sunday. It rained continuously during the day and night on Monday. This has affected the air of Dhaka. Dhaka’s air was of ‘acceptable quality’ on Tuesday morning.

Dhaka was ranked 42nd among 119 cities in the world in terms of air pollution at nine o’clock this morning. Dhaka scores 56 on IQAir’s air quality index. This quality of air is considered as ‘moderate or acceptable quality’.

IQAir, a Switzerland-based organization, regularly highlights the situation of air pollution. This live or instant indicator of air quality alerts people about how clean or polluted the air is in a particular city.

India’s New Delhi was at the first position in air pollution at nine o’clock this morning. The city scores 277 on IQAir’s index. Lahore of Pakistan and Jakarta of Indonesia were in the second and third positions respectively. Lahore’s score is 165. 161 of Jakarta.

According to IQAir criteria, a score of 51 to 100 is considered moderate or acceptable air quality.

A score of 101 to 150 is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include the elderly, children, sick people and pregnant women. A score of 151 to 200 is unhealthy air.

A score of 201 to 300 indicates very unhealthy air. A score of 301 and above is considered catastrophic or risky.
