Londabhand Dwip Upazila Hatia due to Cyclone Remal’s impact and flood. Due to this, 11 Unions of Hatia Upazila including Nijhum Dwip have been flooded with tidal water. Many deer of Nijhum Dwip have been swept away by the sea tide and many deer have died said the chairman of Nijhum Dwip. Due to heavy rain and wind, there is still panic among the helpless people trapped in water.

Meanwhile, for the past three days, all external naval communications with Hatia have been closed. Due to strong wind, the power supply in Hatia has been stopped for three days, said Executive Engineer Md. Mashiur Rahman said.

On the other hand, the local MP Muhammad Ali gave the damage report to the Disaster and Relief Minister today, showing that 30,000 people from 9,000 families were affected in Nijhum Island and 3,500 mud houses were destroyed.

10,000 people from 4,000 families were affected in Dhalchar, 20,000 families in Char Ghasia, 10,000 people from 4,000 families in Chanandi Union and more than 500 houses were destroyed.

Besides, large areas of Harni, Chanandi, Sukhchar, Nalchira, Sonadia, Jahazmara, Burir Char, Char Ishwar, Charking, Nalchira Union have been flooded by tidal water and many houses have been destroyed, he said.

On the other hand, Nijhum Island and Chanandi Union have no fences, so 50,000 people have become trapped in water due to abnormal sea tides in these two areas, he said.

Mohammad Ali also mentioned that Cyclone Remal in Hatia has destroyed about 100 kilometers of unpaved roads and thousands of cattle and fish in many ponds have been washed away.

Upazila Executive Officer Subhashish Chakma said that about 52 thousand families have been affected in Hatia due to Cyclone Remal.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Shubhagat Biswas said that government relief materials cannot be distributed among the affected people due to adverse weather conditions.
