97 percent of Rural Electrification Board (REB) and 100 percent of West Zone Power Distribution Company (Ojopadico) customers have regained power connection in various parts of the country due to cyclone Rimal.
This information was informed by the Ministry of Electricity, Fuel and Mineral Resources on Thursday (May 30).
According to the ministry, 2 crore 93 lakh 87 thousand 207 customers out of 3 crore 3 lakh 9 thousand 702 customers of Rural Electrification Board cut off electricity till 12 noon today i.e. 97 percent of the customers have been re-connected. Remaining 9 lakh 22 thousand 495 customers have not yet regained power connection
However, the ministry has informed that it will be possible to provide electricity connection to 99 percent of customers by Thursday evening. The remaining 1 percent of customers will have to go door to door in remote areas with service drops and meters. To meet the challenge, measures will be taken to connect as quickly as possible.
Apart from this, 100% of the customers of the West Zone Power Distribution Company (Ozopadico) who were cut off during the cyclone have been re-connected.
According to the preliminary information, the damage of Tk 103 crore 33 lakh has been done across the country due to Cyclone Rimal, the Ministry said.
