Husband and wife die due to lightning in West Bengal

A couple has died due to lightning in West Bengal. The accident took place on Friday morning (May 31) in the new village of Barajora police station in Bankura while going to pick vegetables from the land in the rain.

According to local sources, the names of the dead husband and wife are Niranjan Santara and Tararani Santara. On Friday, while picking vegetables in the field, they fell due to a sudden lightning strike. On seeing the scene, the local residents immediately rescued them and took them to Barajora Super Specialist Hospital. But doctors on duty declared both dead.

Meanwhile, the people of West Bengal have been reeling under the uncomfortable heat for several days. Although there was some relief from the rains caused by Cyclone Rimal, intense heat has started again from Wednesday (May 29).

On Thursday (May 30) night, almost all the districts of West Bengal including Kolkata started raining with thunder. Along with that there was a strong wind. Clouds have been seen in the sky since Friday morning. Somewhere it is raining intermittently.

Somnath Dutta, director of the Alipore Meteorological Department in Kolkata, said that rainfall is likely across the state on June 1, the day of the last phase of polling. A stormy wind may blow with it. As a result, yellow warning of lightning and gale has been issued in several districts including Kolkata.

Kolkata’s maximum temperature on Friday was 34 degrees Celsius, which was 1.1 degrees below normal. And the minimum temperature on this day was 23.7 degrees Celsius, which is 4.1 degrees Celsius lower than normal.
