According to the announcement of the Malaysian government, the country’s labor market is closing for Bangladeshis. From June 1, no more Bangladeshi workers can enter Malaysia.

In such a situation, workers going to Malaysia have been waiting at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport since Friday (May 31) morning. Hundreds of passengers are in a desperate situation at the airport, hoping for a flight even at night after struggling all day. Some have bought tickets, others are waiting there without tickets.

Such a picture was seen at Shahjalal International Airport around 11 pm on Friday.

According to the latest information from the airport authority, seven Malaysia-bound flights left Shahjalal International Airport from Friday morning to evening. Another special flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines departs at 7:30 PM.

Passengers at the airport say that some have been waiting for two days. Someone has been sitting at the airport since this morning.

According to them, the agency has asked them to come to the airport. Some of them bought tickets, while others came without tickets.

They said that even though the specific time to go to Malaysia has passed, they are waiting in the hope that they will be sent on a special flight.

A passenger named Ariful said, “There is a ticket, no food since morning, no rest.” Couldn’t even get on the last special flight. We don’t know what time the flight is. Gave me three times since yesterday (Thursday). Once said flight at 5 am, again at 4 pm, waiting like this. My family is also suffering from me.

Saikat Halder, Public Relations Officer of Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment, told Jago News, “Dishonest agencies are suffering passengers. They didn’t get the tickets, but they are harassing the passengers at the airport. We got the news, they are sitting waiting for the flight. Not being able to book tickets is just a nightmare for passengers. Our instructions were that no one should buy tickets for more than the fixed price. Many people are not able to pay 1 lakh 20 thousand for a ticket of 60 thousand rupees.

It is known that the government of the country has imposed the obligation of entry by May 31 of this year for those who have officially received a Malaysian worker visa. The Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment informed everyone about this through an urgent notice in the newspaper on May 16, but many expatriate workers in Bangladesh did not know. Later, after the 20th of May, when the matter became known, there was a crisis of flights due to the rush to go to Malaysia. As a result, many expatriates are apprehensive about going to Malaysia.
