Bangladesh Bank has given instructions to strengthen the security of banks all over the country by keeping CCTV operational and deploying sufficient armed guards. At the same time, the central bank has also asked to train the guards in handling weapons.

Recently, the case of a customer’s ‘disappearance’ of 149 gold pieces from the locker room of the Chawkbazar branch of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited in Chittagong created quite a sensation in the public mind. Apart from this, cases of money disappearance and robbery often occur in banks in different parts of the country. In view of this, the Central Bank has given such instructions.

On Monday (June 3), the Rules and Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank sent a letter to the Chief Executives of the banks with instructions in this regard.

According to this directive of the central bank, to ensure the security of the business centers of all scheduled banks, the required number of CCTV or IP cameras or spy cameras should be installed at the entrance of the bank branch, inside the branch, outside the branch and in all types of IT rooms. Effective measures should be taken to keep the CCTV or spy cameras connected to the central information network of the bank, keep them under continuous monitoring, and the video footage recorded in the cameras can be obtained by the nearest police station.

The directive also states that sufficient number of armed security guards should be kept for the security of the bank and training of armed security guards should be arranged.

Bangladesh Bank said that some banks are not following these instructions properly to ensure the security of their business centers. In such a situation, the regulatory body has again instructed the banks to ensure safety.
