Not only Abul Khair, thousands of homeless families of Chanandi Union of Hatia Upazila of Noakhali affected by Rimal are now in this situation. Residents living outside the embankment were the worst affected. After the storm, they said that they did not get any help except 10 kg of relief rice per family from the government. Affected family members say they need shelter more than food. They are spending their days in great difficulty due to lack of housing.

After talking to several local residents, they have not seen any administration official after the storm. They met Chanandi Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Azahar Uddin. After the storm, the 10 kg of rice that was given as government aid, was later measured to be 8 kg. The rice was given after keeping it for the whole day. That day’s income was nothing.

On Monday, it was seen on the ground in the Rani village of Charananglia of Chanandi Union that Abul Khair’s wife Hosne Ara Begum was trying to put her crying grandson to sleep under the open sky on one side of an empty house. Abul Khair said, even if the rice is stocked, the curry is not stocked. Meghna came closer to the house. The way it’s breaking down, it won’t even have a house floor after a week. Suddenly everything in the house was washed away by the tidal water. There is water in the house.

Abul Khair said, he used to earn his living by selling turmeric and pepper in the alley of the local landless market. A girl’s husband dies and she stays with him with one child. The residence of Nuruzzaman (74) of East Azimnagar village of Nalerchar in the same union was completely destroyed by the flood and storm. He was also being swept away by the tide. Without seeing a way, he was holding the mango tree with his two grandchildren. Nuruzzaman’s house is on the bank of the river outside the embankment. His house collapsed at the first blow of the flood.

Chanandi Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Azahar Uddin told Prothom Alo that more than 1,000 residents living outside the embankment in his union were affected by the storm. Most of the mud houses of the people have been washed away by the tidal water. He has received 11 metric tons of rice from the government. distributed them. No money has been allocated till now.

Hatyar (Noakhali-6 Constituency) Member of Parliament Mohammad Ali told Prothom Alo about this that they are trying hard to provide houses to the homeless families along with other cooperation. He has also written to the concerned ministry of the government. He is also communicating directly. The affected people have been given 10 kg of rice by the government. Apart from this he distributed dry food from personal funds. Apart from the chairman of the union council, the party leaders and workers are being used in the service of the affected people.
