Allocation for primary education has increased by 4 thousand 97 crores

Finance Minister Abul Hasan Mahmud Ali has said that 4 thousand 97 crore more has been allocated for the primary education standard and recruitment of additional teachers in the fiscal year 2024-25 compared to last year.

The Finance Minister presented this budget proposal in the Jatiya Sangsad today Thursday under the chairmanship of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury. Before that, the budget was approved by the cabinet.

The Finance Minister said in his budget speech, ‘In the coming financial year 2024-25, I propose to allocate 38 thousand 819 crores for primary and public education, which was 34 thousand 722 crores in the current financial year 2023-24. Accordingly, 4 thousand 97 crore rupees have increased in the coming financial year.

The finance minister said, ‘In order to ensure the quality of education and to increase the teacher-student ratio, 2 lakh 38 thousand 579 teachers have been appointed from 2009 to 2023 and 26 thousand 366 new posts of assistant teachers have been created. Since 2010, every year since 2010, free textbooks are being given to primary level children through ‘Book Festival’ on January 1, with the aim of ensuring that books are the main source of education for students at the beginning of the year. 100% students are being given stipend through EFT to prevent dropout of children at primary level. As a result of the well-thought-out policies of the government, the net enrollment rate in primary education has increased from 90.8 percent in 2009 to 97.56 percent in 2022.

Wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids etc. are being procured and distributed to children with special needs in schools and ramps are being constructed in primary schools to facilitate their access to classrooms.
