Multiple landslides in hills of Sikkim, 3 dead

In Northeast India, there have been terrible landslides in the mountains at the beginning of monsoon. Three people were killed in a landslide at Majua slum in Yanggang sub-division of South Sikkim’s Namchi district due to incessant rains. Several areas have been cut off due to broken roads.

According to Sikkim administration sources, 8 houses in the village were heavily damaged due to landslides due to heavy rains. After receiving the news, the administration started the rescue work very quickly. So far three bodies have been recovered.

On the other hand, seven people were rescued with injuries. It is believed that many people are still buried under the rubble.

Namchi District Commissioner Annapurna Ale said that the local residents joined hands with the administration in the rescue work. But the rescue work is hampered due to bad weather. Several areas have been cut off due to the collapse of roads. The condition of every village in Yanggang sub-division is dire. The road is covered with rain water. Tentek Khola and Makhay Dikhu to Singtam road closed due to heavy rains.

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang assured all help to the victims. Monsoon has already entered North Bengal while Monsoon has not yet entered South Bengal. Sikkim in northeast India also received heavy rains.

Weather office has issued warning of very heavy rain in Sikkim today as well. Besides, heavy rain warning has been issued in the northern districts including Darjeeling.
