Legendary qawwali artist Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan died of heart disease in London at the age of 48 in 1997. British record label Real World Records has announced the release of the lost album ‘Chain of Light’ 27 years after his death. The artist recorded the album at Real World Studios in 1990 before his death.

Real World Records is bringing this three-and-a-half-decade-old album to the audience on September 20. It will be available in CD, standard LP format. Musician Peter Gabriel’s record label released a teaser of the album on June 19.

Peter Gabriel wrote in a statement, ‘I have been fortunate to work with many artists from around the world. Perhaps the best musician among them is Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. We were overjoyed to find the album. It’s a great record.’

For decades after decades no trace of that album was found. Real World Records was in storage. An analog tape of the album became available during an archive transfer in 2021. The songs were recovered from the tape.

New York Times called Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan the world’s greatest qawwali singer of all time. In 2023, he was on Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 greatest musicians of all time.
