Dhaka Bypass Expressway will be launched in 2025

The road construction contractors have said that the Dhaka Bypass Road infrastructure work will be completed within the next year. So far more than 60 percent construction of the road has been completed.

When the work of the bypass is completed, the 48 km expressway from Joydevpur to Madanpur will be uninterrupted without entering Dhaka. It will be the most modern technology road in the country.

This information was given on media public day at Seaclub Resort in Mirer Bazar area of ​​Gazipur on Thursday (June 27). Earlier, the ongoing activities of various parts of the bypass were shown to the media workers on the ground. At that time, the K-12 railway overpass (Mir Bazar flyover) and footpath construction of the project were inspected. Later the Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh (CEAB) and issues of interest to China and Bangladeshi media were discussed.

The expressway is going to be implemented under the first Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project of the Department of Roads and Highways (SOAZ). A consortium of Sichuan Road and Bridge (Group) Corporation Limited (SRBG), Shamim Enterprises Limited (SEL) and UDC Construction Limited (UDC) is working to implement this project. Asian Development Bank (ADB) is acting as the financial consultant for this project.

Joydevpur-Devgram-Bhulta-Madanpur Road (Dhaka Bypass) PPP Project is making the previous two-lane road a new four-lane. Besides, there will be two service lanes for the traffic of those areas. Where it used to take two hours for this entire road, it will come down to half an hour.

The cost of the project is three and a half thousand crore rupees. The road will be open to traffic by July 2025. After the completion of this project, buses, trucks and other vehicles will be able to move easily from the northern and western regions to the southern and eastern regions of the country without entering Dhaka city.

Dhaka Bypass Expressway Development Company Limited (DPDC) CEO Xiao Zhiming said at the media day that the expressway will add a new dimension to the highways of Bangladesh. It will provide a safe and comfortable travel experience. Besides, this road will play a major role in improving Dhaka’s traffic network, reducing traffic congestion and local economic development after the project is completed.

Xiao said the project was listed as a practical cooperation project at the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. Which is an example of high quality cooperation between China and Bangladesh.

During the event, CEAB Vice President Yang Jianshi emphasized such cooperation between China and Bangladesh under the Belt and Road Initiative and the China-Bangladesh-India-Myanmar Economic Corridor. He said that the member institutions will continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in various fields by contributing to the social and economic development of Bangladesh. I believe that the efforts of the two countries will contribute to the socio-economic development of Bangladesh and ensure mutual benefits.

Another vice president of CEAB, Wu Qidong, COO of DPDC was also present in the event. Shafiqul Islam Akand and General Managers Shi Bo and Yang Xu of the company.
