NATO is indirectly at war with Russia in Ukraine. While not directly deploying troops or weapons, NATO member states, including the United States, are helping Ukraine with arms and money. As a result, the Russia-Ukraine war has essentially become a Russia-NATO war. In this situation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned NATO not to get involved in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Turkish media Daily Sabah reported that Erdogan gave this warning while talking to the media before leaving the country for the United States at the NATO conference.

Erdogan thinks this year’s NATO conference is particularly important, “This year’s conference is being held on the 75th anniversary of NATO, so it has additional importance.” I will follow up on the decisions taken at the NATO conference in Vilnius last year.

Erdogan also said that Türkiye always supports the sovereignty of Ukraine. But he does not want NATO to get involved in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war by taking Ukraine’s side.

Expressing his position on this matter, Erdoğan said, “In principle, we think that NATO should not be part of the war in any way while supporting Ukraine.”

Note that in February 2022, Russia started military operations in Ukraine. This war has been going on for more than two years. Several countries, including Turkey, have tried to establish a ceasefire and calm, but their efforts have not worked.
