The National Citizen Party (NCP) held a protest rally on Friday (May 2) in front of the south gate of Baitul Mukarram in Dhaka, demanding a ban on the Awami League. The event began at 3 PM and saw NCP leaders and activists arriving in groups, some carrying placards and posters. Leaders from various districts, including central figures, joined the rally. Present on stage were NCP Convenor Md. Nahid Islam, Senior Joint Convenor Samanta Sharmin, Joint Convenor Nusrat Tabassum, Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasnim Zara, Northern Organizer Sarjis Alam, Southern Organizer Hasnat Abdullah, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, and Senior Joint Coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud. Speakers at the rally demanded legal action against those responsible for allegedly seizing and maintaining power unlawfully in the 2014, 2018, and 2024 national elections. They called for the cancellation of the Awami League’s registration and a complete ban on the party’s political activities. The speakers declared that since the “people’s verdict” on August 5 had rejected the Awami League, its members should no longer be allowed on the streets. They emphasized that banning the party is a prerequisite for any meaningful reform and the organization of future national elections.
