BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has stated that peace will not prevail in Bangladesh unless communal-based politics and blame games are stopped. Speaking at a discussion marking Buddha Purnima in front of the National Press Club on Sunday (May 11), he emphasized that had the message of nonviolence taught by Gautam Buddha been embraced, the country would not be plagued by violence, killings, and oppression. Rizvi asserted that Bangladesh has long been a land of communal harmony where people of all faiths coexist peacefully, and those who attempt to portray the country as communal are no true friends of the nation. He further criticized the post-authoritarian government, calling it indifferent to electoral processes, and expressed public concerns over the escape of a murder-accused former president with alleged state assistance. Rizvi also condemned the silence of the current regime over the forced cross-border push-ins allegedly happening through Indian borders, saying it mirrors the injustices committed by the previous administration under Sheikh Hasina.
