The unprecedented attack of the Ukrainian forces entering the territory of Russia entered the fifth day on Saturday. In the meantime, it is known that the Ukrainian troops have advanced 10 kilometers inside Russia. On Tuesday morning, the Ukrainian troops crossed the border and started attacking the Kursk region in the west of Russia, surprising Moscow. This is the biggest attack of Ukraine in Russia in two and a half years of war. In the face of Ukraine’s attack, Russia has launched a major counterattack in three areas near the border of Ukraine yesterday. Moscow describes the attack as an “anti-terrorist operation”. According to various media reports, Ukrainian forces have advanced more than 10 kilometers inside Russia in five days. Attacking in different places. Panic has overtaken the region.

“It’s terrible,” a resident of the Kursk region told Reuters. They are bombarding us. A female resident said, “The war has come to our door.”

Russia started attacking Ukraine in February 2022. After that, Ukraine attacked Russia several times. However, like this time, Russia could never attack so much.

Videos posted on social media showed at least 15 Russian military vehicles destroyed on the road to Kursk. Wounded Russian soldiers can also be seen in military vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian forces continued to attack the Kursk region. Kiev said they attacked a Russian airport last Friday. A warehouse at the base contained hundreds of bombs.

Ukraine claimed that Russia was attacking different cities of Ukraine with the weapons and ammunition they destroyed by attacking the airport. Kiev says the Russian airbase is known for deploying fleets of Sukhoi 34 and 35 and MiG-31 fighter jets. Fighting is also taking place near a Russian nuclear power plant in the Kursk region. The United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has expressed concern about this. In a statement yesterday, Rafale Grossi, head of the agency, called on the two sides to show maximum restraint and take the necessary steps to prevent a nuclear accident.

Russia’s big counterattack

Despite the deployment of additional troops and the evacuation of local residents, the Russian forces could not stop the advance of the Ukrainian troops. For this reason, Russia has started an anti-terrorist operation in Belgorod and Bryansk regions in addition to Kursk yesterday to confront the Ukrainian forces. Russian law gives the country’s military and security forces special powers during counter-terrorism operations.

Additional troops and military equipment have been sent to these areas as the anti-terror operation has been announced. Additional tanks, artillery, rocket launchers and special units of the Air Force have been deployed to prevent the further advance of Ukrainian troops. Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of residents of the three regions for special operations. Apart from this, checkpoints have been installed at various places. Security of military installations has been strengthened. Apart from this, the residents of these areas are being evacuated to safe places.

The Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday that more than 280 Ukrainian soldiers were killed in the previous 24 hours in the counterattack of the Russian forces. Earlier, Russia said that about 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers with tanks and armored vehicles have entered Russia. Yesterday, the Russian army said that their troops are fighting with the Ukrainian forces.
