BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has criticized the ongoing delay in political reforms, suggesting that some are using it as a cover for hidden agendas. Speaking at a youth rally organized by the party’s three front organizations in Dhaka’s Nayapaltan on Wednesday, May 28, he stressed that the next general election must be held by December 2025.
Tarique called on party activists to begin preparing for the polls immediately, urging them to gain public trust to ensure the selection of their own representatives. He emphasized that BNP’s future political direction would prioritize the youth and women, stating that national progress is impossible without their active involvement.
Reiterating BNP’s focus on employment-driven politics, he said the party aims to prioritize the country’s working population and generate opportunities for the new generation.
Criticizing the government for failing to uphold the rule of law, he referenced recent judicial controversies, such as the rejection of Ishraque Hossain’s oath-taking, as evidence of authoritarian decision-making. He urged the ruling party to resign and return to the people if they truly wish to stay in power through democratic means.
Tarique concluded with a patriotic call to reject foreign influence in national politics, stating: “Not Delhi, not Pindi, not any other nation — Bangladesh must come first.”
The rally was presided over by Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna and jointly moderated by Swechchhasebak Dal General Secretary Rajib Ahsan and Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. Senior BNP leaders including Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Salahuddin Ahmed also addressed the gathering.
