BNP national executive committee member Mohiuddin Jintu is waiting to return to the country. After the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government, the BNP leader’s life in exile is coming to an end as a result of the political change in Bangladesh.

It is known that BNP leader Jintu, who has been in Sweden for many years, will return to the country along with acting chairman of BNP Tarek Rahman. Mohiuddin Jintu was subjected to harassment and torture during the dictator Ershad’s tenure due to BNP’s politics.

After the dictator Hussain Muhammad Ershad seized power in 1982, Mohiuddin Ahmed Jintu was falsely accused of murdering two businessmen. In that case, the military court ordered the hanging of Mohiuddin Jintu on July 20, 1982. He went to India after the verdict was announced. He took political asylum from India via Japan to Sweden. Later, he surrendered to the court in 2005.

He told the court that he had gone into hiding fearing that the verdict would be announced in his absence. Inspired by the ideals of late President Ziaur Rahman, he joined BNP. He became a victim of political revenge. President Yazuddin Ahmed commuted his sentence on 13 January 2005, 10 days after his surrender.

While active in BNP politics, he was associated with leaders at various levels including central leader late Abdus Salam Talukder, Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy. He went to Sweden instead of Canada on the advice of BNP leaders. Since then he has been living in Sweden with political asylum. Mohiuddin Jintu was also active in BNP politics abroad – he served as the founding president of Japan BNP. Also Sweden was the chief advisor of BNP.

When Sheikh Hasina came to power through the 2008 elections, Jintu could not return to the country because of the security of her life. On August 5, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell through the mass uprising of students. Sheikh Hasina fled to India. After this political change in the country, the exiled leaders of BNP have started returning to the country from abroad. Mohiuddin Jintu, a member of the National Executive Committee of BNP, is preparing to return to the country.
