Abdullah Mohammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has suggested that like many other countries, Bangladesh’s upcoming national election could be held under the supervision of the United Nations to ensure fairness. He made these remarks on Monday (June 23) while speaking to reporters after a meeting between Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Canadian High Commissioner Ajit Singh at Jamaat’s central office in Moghbazar, Dhaka.
Responding to various questions from journalists, Taher emphasized that Jamaat-e-Islami supports holding referendums on election procedures and other issues where political consensus is absent. He also mentioned that during the meeting, the Canadian High Commissioner assured that Canada would stand by Bangladesh, along with other international partners, in efforts to hold a fair election.
Earlier, on Sunday (June 22), Japanese Ambassador Saida Shinichi also paid a courtesy visit to Jamaat’s central office and met with Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman.
