Jute Minister calls on Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in textile and jute sector of Bangladesh

Textile and Jute Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak has invited Chinese businessmen and entrepreneurs to invest in the textile and jute sector of Bangladesh. He made the call during a courtesy meeting with Yao Wen, the Chinese ambassador to Bangladesh, at his office in the capital’s secretariat on Thursday.

 

The minister said that jute and jute products are environment friendly. Textile and jute sector in Bangladesh is very promising. Investors from different countries have already started the investment process in this sector. Chinese investors can also invest in this sector.

 

He also said that we want to increase the export of jute and jute products to China. He requested us to increase training and scholarship opportunities for our textile engineers in China. The Minister invited Chinese ambassadors and businessmen to visit the Bangladesh Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC).

During the meeting, the Chinese ambassador said, I firmly believe that Chinese investors will invest in the textile and jute sector. Today we have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Commerce to explore the feasibility of concluding a free trade agreement. As a result, textiles and jute products are expected to become important.

 

He reiterated China’s commitment to continue its support in building a smart Bangladesh. Referring to the training of government officials in China through the Economic Relations Department (ERD) from Bangladesh, the ambassador said that cooperation will be increased in the field of training and internship of textile engineers. He invited Bangladeshis to participate in the textile expo to be held in China next November and display their products.

In the meeting, both sides agreed to reduce the import and export gap between Bangladesh and China.

 

After the meeting, in response to a question from the journalists present, the Minister of Textiles and Jute said that there was a discussion with the Chinese ambassador on matters related to mutual interests in a very cordial atmosphere. China is one of our major development partners. China is the first to congratulate the current ruling government Bangladesh Awami League after being elected for the 4th consecutive term under the leadership of successful statesman Sheikh Hasina. China is playing an important role in the development of Bangladesh. China’s ambassador has informed that China’s assistance will continue in the construction of Smart Bangladesh during this government period.

 

During the meeting with the ambassador of China, the secretary of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute. Abdur Rauf, Additional Secretary Taslima Kaniz Nahida, Director General of Textile Directorate. Nuruzzaman, JDPC Executive Director Gopal Chandra Das, Chinese Embassy Economic and Commercial Counselor Song Yong and Attache Li Jichen were present.
