The Bay of Bengal remains turbulent due to a prevailing low-pressure system, with a risk of 1 to 3 feet high tidal surges in several coastal and island regions of Bangladesh.
According to a special bulletin issued on Saturday (July 26) by meteorologist Md. Shahinul Islam from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the low-pressure area that developed over West Bengal and adjoining northwestern Bay of Bengal has now moved inland toward Jharkhand. The system is expected to move further northwest.
This weather pattern has intensified pressure differences over the northern Bay of Bengal, increasing the likelihood of gusty winds across coastal areas and over sea ports.
Due to this situation, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to hoist Local Cautionary Signal Number 3.

The combination of the new moon and the low-pressure system may trigger storm surges up to 3 feet above normal tides in coastal districts including Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Jhalokathi, Pirojpur, Barishal, Barguna, Patuakhali, Bhola, Chandpur, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Feni, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and nearby offshore islands and chars.
All fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have been strongly advised to remain in safe harbor until further notice.
