Bangladesh and Germany Strengthen Ties for Climate Change Mitigation

In a meeting with the German Ambassador Achim Troster at the Secretariat, Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Forests and Climate Change, told reporters after the meeting on September 17 that Germany will invest 1 billion euros for the renewable energy sector in Bangladesh.

Syeda Rizwana said that Germany will invest 1 billion euros in the country’s renewable energy sector. The total amount will be given by the country in 10 years and in the current financial year will get 15 million Euros.

He also said that this cooperation will also involve small ethnic minorities, women and youth, which will encourage a multi-stakeholder approach.

A multi-stakeholder approach is a process in which the opinions and participation of various parties or stakeholders are included when solving a problem or making a decision. These stakeholders may include governments, non-governmental organizations, businesses, local communities, and other interested parties. This approach is adopted to ensure integrated and long-term solutions by taking into account various perspectives.

The advisor also said that international cooperation should be increased to deal with global climate challenges and the importance of sustainable forest management.

The German ambassador said that Germany will support Bangladesh in the fight against climate change. He also said that Bangladesh government’s initiative to protect the environment is commendable. Germany has considerable expertise in renewable energy. Germany will provide technical assistance to support Bangladesh’s green energy initiatives.

In the meeting on 17th, both sides discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation between Bangladesh and Germany in river cleaning, environmental protection and climate change mitigation. Discussions covered sustainable development projects, use of green technologies, and working together to address environmental and climate change challenges. In addition, potential cooperation issues on how to make development more environmentally friendly and sustainable and reduce climate damage were also discussed.
