Bangladesh’s success in the first session was just one wicket. Shakib Al Hasan took the first wicket after waiting for 15 overs. Broke the pair of 86 runs. Sri Lankan batsman Chandimal (59 off 104) was caught by Liton Das behind the wicket for his fifty.

On Saturday, the Lankans won the toss and batted at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. Two openers Nishan Madushanka, Dimuth Karunaratne and Kushal Mendis scored half centuries. In between, Mendis got out by going close to the century.

The two Lankan openers made a huge pair of 96 runs after batting. The Tigers broke the pair at the beginning of the second session that day. Half-centurian Madushanka (57) was run out due to a misunderstanding with his partner while taking two runs off Mehdi Hasan Miraj.

Towards the end of the session, Bangladesh got another wicket. Debutant Hasan Mahmud broke Kushal Mendis and Dimuth Karunaratne’s 114-run partnership. Karunaratne (86 runs from 129 balls), who was on the threshold of a century, was bowled by the right-handed pacer while playing a drive on the outside ball.

Bangladesh bowlers took two more wickets in the third session. Sri Lankan batsman Kushal Mendis, just 7 runs short of a century (93 off 150 balls), was caught by Mirage while punching an out-swing ball from Tiger all-rounder Shakib.

Mathews’ partnership with Dinesh Chandimal for the fourth wicket was not great. Only 26 runs. Mathews caught Miraj’s ball from pacer Hasan Mahmud. He got out for 23 runs.
