Members of banned organizations will not be eligible for government jobs, as stated by the interim government’s Youth and Sports Advisor, Asif Mahmud. On Thursday evening, he made this announcement through a post on his verified Facebook account. In his post, Asif Mahmud wrote, “No member of a banned organization will be appointed to public service. Those currently in the hiring process will also be excluded. Future vacancies will be filled based on merit and qualifications.” He further added, “Upcoming recruitment announcements will offer opportunities for a larger number of candidates. The government is committed to ending bribery in job recruitment. Refrain from giving or taking bribes for employment.” The Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of the Awami League, was banned on Wednesday night following demands from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. According to a notice from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Bangladesh Chhatra League was banned under the powers granted by the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009, and it has been listed as a banned entity in Schedule 2 of the same act.
