KU Students Beat Two Men Accused of Attempted Rape in Front of Police
Two men accused of attempting to rape a female student of Comilla University (KU) were publicly beaten by students while being taken into custody by police.
A video circulating on social media shows the university students stopping the police vehicle transporting the accused and repeatedly hitting them with shoes, shouting at them for their crime.
The two detained men have been identified as Md. Hossain Ali, 25, and Md. Ali Hossain, 23. Police reported that three other suspects—Picchi Russel, Noor Alam, and Saurav—are still at large.
According to reports, the female student boarded a bus from Kotbari Bishwaroad in the morning to travel to Dhaka. The bus deviated from its planned route, and while she was alone with the driver and helper, she was threatened at knifepoint and robbed of her jewelry and money before the attempted sexual assault.
KU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Haider Ali condemned the attack, saying, “The student was tied up and assaulted in a medieval manner. This kind of crime is absolutely unacceptable.”
An executive magistrate has sentenced the two detained men to two years of non-bailable imprisonment. Police have stated that the formal case will be filed within a month and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
Comilla District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Nazir Ahmed Khan assured, “The authorities are actively pursuing the fugitives and will ensure there is no lapse in police action.”
