In response to nationwide outrage over the rape of an 8-year-old child in Magura, legal reforms are underway to expedite the trial process for rape cases. Legal advisor Professor Asif Nazrul announced that amendments are being made to ensure that accused individuals in rape cases are denied bail and that investigations must be completed within 15 days instead of 30.
During a briefing at the Ministry of Law on Sunday, March 9, he stated that trials for rape cases must conclude within 90 days. Additionally, judges may be allowed to issue verdicts based solely on medical certificates if deemed necessary.
At the same briefing, Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury confirmed that all suspects involved in the Magura child rape case have been arrested and assured that the perpetrators will face the maximum punishment. He also emphasized efforts to complete the trial in half the usual timeframe.
