Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, an advisor to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, as well as the Ministry of Youth and Sports, has announced plans to revive the historic Eid procession reminiscent of the Sultanate era.
During a press briefing on Sunday (March 23) at the Buriganga Hall of Dhaka South City Corporation’s Nagar Bhaban, Asif stated that Dhaka North City Corporation is taking steps to reinstate this traditional Eid procession to enhance the city's festive spirit.
Regarding the event’s initiation, he mentioned that the Eid congregation would be held at the old trade fair ground near the China-Maitri Conference Center. Following the prayers, the Eid procession would commence and conclude in front of the National Parliament building. He urged city residents to embrace this initiative, which aims to bring a renewed sense of celebration in modern Bangladesh.
Asif also shared a similar message in a Facebook post, emphasizing that the current Eid celebrations lack collective festivities, often limited to watching television programs or resting. He reiterated that the revival of Dhaka's historic Eid procession, a tradition observed during the Sultanate and later British periods, is part of an effort to introduce a more vibrant and communal Eid experience.
