Allegations of administrative irregularities and misconduct have emerged against officials at the Dhamti South Union Land Office in Debidwar upazila of Cumilla, with local residents claiming that public land-related services have become increasingly difficult and costly to obtain.
According to multiple complaints from service seekers and local residents, concerns have been raised regarding the management style of the office and the handling of land-related applications, including mutation and land record services.
Residents allege that a staff member officially employed in a non-administrative role has been seen assisting with digital land management tasks, including online mutation-related activities. Critics argue that such practices could raise concerns regarding procedural compliance and data security.
Several locals questioned whether sensitive government land records should be handled only by authorized personnel with appropriate responsibilities and training.
A number of residents interviewed during the investigation claimed that unofficial payments were requested for land mutation and related services. Alleged amounts reportedly ranged from several thousand taka to significantly higher sums in more complex cases.
However, these allegations have not been independently verified, and no official findings have yet been released by government authorities.
Some individuals requesting anonymity said they feared potential complications with ongoing applications if their identities were disclosed publicly.
Local residents also alleged that the land office official's family connections within the surrounding area may have contributed to growing influence over administrative matters. These claims likewise remain unverified and have not been substantiated through official investigations.
When approached for comment regarding the allegations, the accused official reportedly denied wrongdoing and referred to his professional relationships within media and administrative circles.
No formal disciplinary action or government inquiry has been announced as of the publication of this report.
Residents have called on higher authorities within the Land Ministry and district administration to examine the allegations and ensure transparency in land service delivery.
Observers note that land administration remains one of the most sensitive public service sectors in Bangladesh, making accountability and public trust essential for effective governance.
Note: The allegations mentioned in this report are claims made by local residents and service seekers. They have not been proven in a court of law or through an official government investigation.
