A British Specialist Arrives in Dhaka to Assist with Khaleda Zia’s Treatment
A specialist physician from the United Kingdom, Dr. Richard Beale, has arrived in Dhaka to provide medical support for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
According to Shairul Kabir Khan of the BNP Chairperson’s media wing, Dr. Beale landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
Upon arrival, he went straight to Evercare Hospital in the capital, where Khaleda Zia is currently receiving care in the hospital’s Coronary Care Unit (CCU).
On Tuesday, Khaleda Zia’s personal physician, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, said that the BNP had completed all necessary preparations to take her abroad if required. However, any decision would depend on her current condition and the assessment of the medical board. He also mentioned that a specialist from the UK was expected to come to review her situation.
Dr. Zahid added that if, after evaluation, the medical board decides that overseas treatment is essential, then steps will be taken to transfer her accordingly.
Earlier in January, Khaleda Zia had traveled to London for advanced treatment, staying first in a hospital and later at her son Tarique Rahman’s residence. She returned to Bangladesh on 6 May after nearly four months.
On 23 November, she was taken to Evercare Hospital due to breathing difficulties. Tests later revealed a lung infection, prompting her admission. Her condition worsened early Sunday morning, leading doctors to move her from the SDU to the CCU for more intensive care.
