Candidate changes have also been made in several other constituencies, including Brahmanbaria-4 (Akhaura–Kasba), Munshiganj-2 (Tongibari–Louhajang), and Munshiganj-3 (Sadar and Gazaria).
In Brahmanbaria-4, former secretary Mushfiqur Rahman has been replaced by Kabir Ahmed Bhuiyan, who is the brother of Abdur Rahman Sani, a close aide to Tarique Rahman.
For Munshiganj-2, the nomination initially went to Mizanur Rahman Sinha, chairman of the Acme Group, but has since been reassigned to Abdus Salam Azad, BNP’s central joint secretary general.
In Munshiganj-3, Kamruzzaman Ratan has been replaced by Md. Mohiuddin Ahmed, member secretary of the district BNP and brother of former BNP MP Abdul Hai.
Former Attorney General Md. Asaduzzaman, who resigned last Saturday, has been nominated from Jhenaidah-1 (Shailkupa)—a seat that had previously been left vacant.
Meanwhile, in Narail-2, district BNP general secretary Monirul Islam has been replaced by Fariduzzaman Farhad, chairman of the National People’s Party (NPP).
Additional changes have occurred in Jessore-1 (Sharsha), Jessore-5 (Monirampur), and Jessore-6 (Keshabpur).
In Jessore-1, Mofiqul Hasan, a former central office secretary of the BNP, has been dropped in favor of Nuruzzaman Liton, general secretary of Sharsha upazila BNP.
In Jessore-5, Iqbal Hossain has been replaced by Mufti Rashid bin Wakkas, senior joint secretary general of Bangladesh Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam.
In Jessore-6, former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president Kazi Rawnaqul Islam has been replaced by Abul Hossain, president of Keshabpur upazila BNP.
In Madaripur-1 (Shibchar), the party has nominated Nadira Akter instead of Kamal Jamal Mollah.
Ahead of the February 12 election, the BNP announced candidates for 272 constituencies in two phases, later allocating 15 seats to allied parties. The remaining 13 constituencies have also been finalized, though the names have not been publicly disclosed.
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury said that, to his knowledge, nominations for all 300 seats are complete, but formal announcements were delayed as candidates were being finalized gradually.
Commenting on the reshuffling, Amir Khasru noted that such changes are routine in elections and often occur even at the final stage before nomination papers are submitted, due to various political and strategic considerations.
