BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Sylhet on January 22, where he will formally kick off his campaign for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. His campaign activities will begin with visits to the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
The information was confirmed on Saturday by BNP Media Cell Convener Maudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel while speaking to BSS.
On Saturday, Tarique Rahman also met with editors of various media outlets at a hotel in Dhaka, where he exchanged greetings and briefly spoke about the upcoming election. He said that with the election approaching, it is only natural for a political party to present its plans to the public, adding that from January 22 they would move forward with all preparations.
However, he did not provide further details regarding campaign strategies.
According to the election schedule, party symbols will be allocated on January 21, and official campaigning will begin the following day.
As part of the campaign launch, Tarique Rahman will travel back to Dhaka by road after completing his visits to the shrines in Sylhet. Along the way, he is expected to address several roadside rallies and public gatherings.
During the return journey, he will attend a public meeting in Moulvibazar and later speak at a campaign rally in Srimangal.
Traditionally, the BNP has begun its election campaigns by paying respects at the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA).
Earlier, following an emergency meeting of the party’s Standing Committee on Friday night, the BNP announced the postponement of Tarique Rahman’s planned tour of the northern region. On the same day, he formally assumed the role of party chairperson.
After the meeting, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir stated that the northern region tour had been temporarily suspended and that a revised schedule would be announced later.
