BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman paid a courtesy visit to Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna on Thursday evening, accompanied by his family members.

Tarique Rahman arrived at Jamuna around 7:30 pm. He was joined by his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, and their daughter, Zaima Rahman.

Earlier in the evening, Tarique Rahman left the BNP chairperson’s office in Gulshan at 6:42 pm and went to his residence. The family departed for Jamuna at approximately 6:52 pm.

This was not the first interaction between the two leaders. During a visit to London on June 13 last year, Professor Yunus held a private meeting with Tarique Rahman at the Dorchester Hotel. At that time, Tarique Rahman was serving as BNP’s acting chairperson, and representatives from both sides later issued a joint statement following the meeting.

After spending 17 years in exile in the United Kingdom, Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh on December 25. Five days later, on December 30, his mother and former prime minister Khaleda Zia passed away. On January 9, Tarique Rahman was unanimously elected BNP chairperson by the party’s highest policymaking body, the National Standing Committee.

Thursday’s meeting marked Tarique Rahman’s first official engagement with Professor Muhammad Yunus since assuming the role of BNP chairperson.
