BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has remarked that individuals from a secretive organization have resurfaced in Bangladesh in the form of new oppressors. He made these comments during an election rally at Bels Park on Band Road in Barishal city on Wednesday afternoon.
Tarique Rahman arrived at Barishal Stadium by helicopter at noon and then traveled by car to the rally venue, where party leaders and supporters lined both sides of the road to welcome him. He reached the stage at 12:27 pm.
Addressing the crowd, he said:
"There is a political group known to the people under a different identity. You all know who they are secretly. Dear brothers and sisters, a new form of tyranny has emerged in Bangladesh. Members of this secretive organization have now appeared as new oppressors."
On the topic of women and men working side by side, Tarique Rahman added:
"In Bangladesh, men and women work together in the fields. Just as our farmers toil in the fields, women farmers do the same. It’s not just in the fields—our women, sisters, and daughters work shoulder to shoulder with men in factories and other workplaces as well."
The stage at Bels Park had previously hosted BNP rallies, including one by the party’s late chairperson, Khaleda Zia, in 2008. Tarique Rahman himself last visited Barishal on May 14, 2006. After today’s rally, he departed for Faridpur.
