BNP Chairperson Tarique Rahman is set to visit the residences of two of his recent electoral rivals — Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Shafiqur Rahman and National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam.
Two members of the BNP chairperson’s press wing confirmed the matter to Prothom Alo on Saturday. According to them, Tarique Rahman will first visit the Jamaat chief at 7:00 pm tomorrow. He is scheduled to meet Nahid Islam at his residence an hour later, at 8:00 pm.
Shafiqur Rahman lives in the Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital, while Nahid Islam resides on Bailey Road.
Sources said the meetings are part of post-election courtesy exchanges.
Earlier today, during a press conference, Tarique Rahman urged all political stakeholders to remain united. He also sought cooperation in governing the country in the coming days.
Previously, the Chief Adviser had made phone calls to Tarique Rahman, Shafiqur Rahman, and Nahid Islam.
In the 13th parliamentary election held last Thursday, BNP’s main competition was against the 11-party alliance led by Jamaat-e-Islami, which included the NCP.
The BNP secured more than two-thirds of the parliamentary seats and is set to form the government after winning 209 constituencies.
Jamaat-e-Islami and its allied parties won 77 seats and are expected to sit in the opposition benches.
