Veteran politician and Member of Parliament Shahidul Islam Babul has shared a deeply personal reflection on his four-decade political journey, emphasizing the importance of loyalty, patience, unity and public service.

In a lengthy statement, Babul said earning public trust is difficult, but maintaining that trust after securing a place in people's hearts is even more challenging. Looking back on 40 years in politics, he described his relationships with party leaders, activists, supporters and ordinary citizens as extending far beyond political affiliation, becoming part of his life's memories, struggles and emotions.

He noted that over the years he has built close ties with people across his constituency and beyond, many of whom continue to approach him with personal problems, political expectations and requests for assistance. While he wishes to help everyone, he acknowledged that fulfilling every expectation is not always possible.

Reflecting on the years when his party was in opposition, Babul said those difficult times were marked by sacrifice, trust and emotional bonds rather than expectations of personal gain. According to him, political responsibilities have increased significantly, bringing with them greater public expectations and pressure.

The MP paid tribute to party activists who endured imprisonment, legal cases, displacement and personal hardship during challenging political periods. At the same time, he stressed that political sacrifice should not be measured solely by public visibility, legal battles or participation in demonstrations. Many supporters, he said, stood by the party quietly and without recognition, both at home and abroad.

Discussing the political landscape of Faridpur-4, Babul described it as uniquely challenging, claiming that political space for opposition forces had been limited for many years. He argued that supporters contributed in different ways and that internal divisions over who sacrificed more could harm unity within the party.

He also urged restraint in political debates on social media, warning that internal criticism should be conducted respectfully and constructively. While acknowledging the importance of accountability and discussion, he emphasized that political disagreements should not undermine broader party interests.

Babul called for patience regarding governance, saying that governments need time and opportunity to implement reforms and address complex challenges. He pointed to domestic and international pressures, economic concerns and global instability as issues requiring unity and cooperation.

In an emotional conclusion, the veteran politician said that positions, power and achievements eventually fade, while the love and trust of ordinary people remain. He expressed gratitude to supporters who stood by him throughout his career, apologized to anyone he may have disappointed and asked for prayers so he can continue serving people with humility and sincerity.

He concluded by saying that his greatest achievement is not any political office or title, but the unconditional love he has received from people over the course of his life.
