The High Court has acquitted BNP-affiliated businessman Giasuddin Al Mamun in an arms case and overturned a 10-year prison sentence handed down in July 2007. The ruling was delivered on Monday by the bench of Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice Nasreen Akhter, following an appeal filed by Mamun challenging the trial court's verdict.

Mamun's lawyer, Sabbir Hamza Chowdhury, informed the media that the court acquitted his client due to the lack of evidence proving the allegations of illegal possession of arms. He also noted that since Mamun's release on August 6 last year, he has been acquitted in four separate cases by the High Court.

Senior lawyer Mohammad Saeed Ahmed Raza represented Mamun in court. Giasuddin Al Mamun is widely known as a close friend of BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman.
